Economizers mean higher thermal efficiencies and lower operating costs. With the typical elevated operating temperatures associated with thermal oil systems, it can be difficult to obtain high efficiencies in the heater alone. By utilizing the combustion air as a heat sink for the high temperature flue gases, it is possible to reduce flue gas temperatures to 350F or lower. This can correspond to thermal efficiencies of 92% or better (LHV basis), which can represent a tremendous savings in annual operating costs.
